Connecting fundraising campaigns to measurable donor acquisition.

Before Zyel was founded, Chason Wetter worked with Grizzard and Duniya Technologies on technology supporting March of Dimes marketing and donation campaigns.

Fundraising was moving from isolated channels toward measurable campaigns.

Direct mail remained central to nonprofit fundraising while web-based donation experiences were emerging as a new way to reach and convert donors.

For campaign teams, collecting donations was only part of the problem. They also needed to understand which marketing efforts generated engagement, what each campaign cost, and how acquisition spending related to individual donors.

Connect campaign spending to donor response.

A useful fundraising system had to preserve the identity of a campaign as a donor moved from a marketing touchpoint into a donation funnel.

The work needed to support campaign-level cost profiling, measure engagement and marketing results, and turn those results into practical acquisition-cost information. That meant looking beyond gross donations to the relationship between outreach expense and each acquired donor.

An early attribution layer for nonprofit campaigns.

01

Direct-mail tracking

Supported integrated tracking that preserved campaign context as donor responses entered the measurement workflow.

02

Donation funnels

Helped connect early digital donation experiences to the marketing campaigns that generated donor interest.

03

Campaign cost profiles

Organized marketing cost information at the campaign level so performance could be compared against spending.

04

Engagement measurement

Measured response and engagement signals that campaign teams could use to evaluate marketing results.

05

Acquisition-cost analysis

Calculated donor acquisition cost and attributed marketing spend at the individual-donor level.

06

Campaign optimization

Made measured results available for improving how subsequent fundraising campaigns were planned and operated.

A clearer view of what it cost to acquire each donor.

The campaign workflow connected marketing activity, donor engagement, donation funnels, and cost data closely enough to support donor-level acquisition analysis.

  • Campaign costs could be profiled and evaluated against marketing results.
  • Engagement data provided feedback for campaign optimization.
  • Donor acquisition cost could be calculated for each campaign.
  • Marketing spend could be attributed at the individual-donor level.

The attribution problem has changed scale, not shape.

Organizations still need to know which campaigns create meaningful engagement and what they spend to acquire each customer, donor, or member.

Modern platforms offer more channels and more data, but disconnected systems can still obscure the path from campaign investment to a completed action. Zyel brings the same measurement discipline to current websites, applications, automation, analytics, and growth systems.
